The second theme is that the eucharistic action actually brings about the presence of Jesus in the bread and wine itself as well as in the believing community. To not recognize Jesus in the Body is to bring judgment upon oneself. To treat fellow Christians in such an irreverent way is to act in similar fashion toward the Lord himself. The close bond between the presence of Christ in the bread and wine and the presence of Christ in the believing community is something to be carefully guarded and deeply cherished. This is why Jesus is so deeply concerned that the eucharistic assembly should be imbued with a spirit of generosity and heartfelt love.
